Barry John Williams, M.D.'s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barry John Williams, M.D. on February 27, 2017. Barry died peacefully at home with his wife and family at his side following a ten month battle with bile duct cancer. Barry was born in Wallasey, Cheshire, England on May 3, 1944 to James Herbert Williams and Marjorie Cecilia Fishwick Williams. He was raised in British Columbia, Canada where he received his medical degree from UBC in 1967. Following an internship at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago Barry began his career in Family Medicine in Montreal, Canada where he met his future wife Karen. They married on April 10, 1971. They were blessed with daughter Kimberly in 1973 and son Scott in 1976. After ten years of practice in Montreal Barry and his family moved to Dallas, Texas where he continued to practice for 30 years, retiring in 2008 so he and Karen could travel. He joined the medical staff of what was then Plano General Hospital in 1977 and established the first Department of Family Medicine. While running a successful Family Practice Barry was instrumental in establishing Physicians for Plano, a charitable organization that offered scholarships to graduating high school seniors. He also served on the Board of Trustees at Medical Center of Plano where he was elected Chief of Staff in 1986. After retirement he continued to serve as Chair of the Ethics committee for Medical City Plano. Barry is predeceased by his children Kimberly and Scott, mother Marjorie and father James. He is survived by his wife Karen, granddaughter Madeline, Scott’s wife Kelly, sister Lynn, nephew Jack, nieces Olivia and Hannah, as well as extended family members, amazing friends and golf buddies. Because of construction at Grace Presbyterian service will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1919 Independence Parkway, Plano on Saturday March 4, 2017, 5 PM, with reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Minnie’s Food Pantry in Plano or City House in Plano. Church in Plano, Texas.
