Bayardo "Tony" DeVega's Obituary
Bayardo Antonio DeVega, known as Tony, passed away on March 25, 2024. He was born on November 1, 1942, in Managua, Nicaragua to Carlos and Maria Hermida DeVega. He emigrated to the United States in 1963, where he had always wanted to come after watching American movies.
On August 19, 1967, he married his beloved wife of 55 years, Suellen Palmer at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Irving. Together they raised their two daughters in Irving, Texas. Tony was a devoted husband and father and had an illustrious career with tech companies that included IBM, Kimberly-Clark, Nortel Networks, Cisco and Bay Networks and afforded him the opportunity to travel the world. His road warrior days allowed him to realize his dream of visiting the pyramids of Egypt. He traveled far and wide, including most of the US, Central and South America, South Africa, Europe, and Saudi Arabia.
Tony’s interests and hobbies were rich and varied including photography, accordion club, space and aliens, model airplanes, Egyptian history, sewing, cooking, gardening, collecting jewelry and crystals, but his passion was music. He played both piano and accordion, loved to sing and enjoyed entertaining family and friends with his musical talents. He was always learning new subjects. He particularly loved to joke and tease friends and family during his daily phone dial-around. And every family member had at least three nicknames. He lived his life to the fullest and on his own terms.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved niece Lynnette Miller. His memory and humor will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Suellen; his daughters Suellen (Steve) Anderson (Euless), Georgia McCullough (Flower Mound); his brother Charles (Shannon) DeVega (Euless), sister Maria (Mark) Floyd (Garland); his three granddaughters Olivia and Isabelle McCullough, Lauren Anderson and his nieces and nephews; Theresa (Kevin) Harrison, Caitlin (Trey) Greenwood, Charles DeVega and Madeline (Patrick) DeVega-Faulkner, Lynnette and Meagan Miller.
A celebration of Tony’s life will take place at 2 p.m. on April 15 in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home (Wildwood Chapel), 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas.
