Beatrice L. Mosley's Obituary
In the city of Denton, Texas on the 14th day of October, nineteen hundred and fifty-four, God sent a beautiful baby girl into the world whom her parents lovingly named Beatrice Lois. She was affectionately called “Bea” by all of her family and friends. Bea was brought up and raised in a loving Christian home with her parents Ruth Beatrice Mosley Brown and Titus Brown Sr. As the oldest child in the home, Bea quickly took on a very nurturing, maternal roll with her younger siblings. She was very protective of her sisters and brother, and would often fight their battles for them. Growing up as an army brat, Bea attended schools in Washington state, Colorado, and finished her grade school years in Garland where she graduated from Garland High school in 1973. Bea continued her education by enrolling in college and studying Montessori Education. She became a certified Montessori teacher and taught for several years before moving to the Garland ISD Administration office where she worked until she retired in 2016. Beatrice loved to be creative and was a very talented cake decorator. She baked and decorated very elaborate, multi-tiered wedding, birthday, and special occasion cakes for several family members and friends over the years. She took great pride in her work, and her confectionary designs were admired by all who saw them. She also loved cooking for her family. Her specialty was her enchiladas and refried beans which would draw everyone together from all over to join in a family meal. Bea’s pride and joy were her nieces and nephews who she pampered and spoiled at every opportunity. She loved to travel with her family and enjoyed taking cruises, trips to Las Vegas, Mexico, and her final vacation to Disney World in Orlando, Florida in 2016. Even though she was confined to a wheelchair, you could still see the child-like excitement in her eyes as she put on her mouse ears and toured the Magic Kingdom with her family. Everyone who knew Bea knew one of her greatest passions was her church. At an early age, Bea became a member of the Lucy Hughes AME church which later became known as Saint Luke AME. Bea worked tirelessly for Saint Luke and gave nonstop of her time, talents, and energy to support the various organizations and ministries. Following in the legacy of her parents, Bea worked with the church all her life. Bea served as a Stewardess, taught Sunday School for several years, was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, drove the church van as part of the Transportation Ministry, and led the Young Peoples Division, YPD, for many years, during which time the group’s numbers grew to record levels. While working with the YPD, Bea organized several events and activities, including writing Christmas Plays and Easter Pageants; planning and chaperoning trips to youth conferences all over the state; and sponsoring fundraisers to fund all the youth activities which fueled her desire to create the Sweet Sue Shop, which she lovingly named after her aunt, Irene “Sue” Thompson. Bea loved working with the youth at Saint Luke, but she also sponsored several events for the Seasoned Saints of the church. Bea started the Amen Restaurant and hosted a yearly formal Luncheon for the senior members of Saint Luke. She was so dedicated to her work with Saint Luke that she could often be found at the church late at night printing the weekly programs and preparing for Sunday Worship Service. Of all of the activities and programs Bea created over the years, her greatest joy came from the Puppet Ministry she began in 2005. Bea worked hours and hours developing the ministry and personally purchased all the puppets and supplies. The Puppet Ministry traveled all over the Metroplex performing at various functions and church services. They regularly were a part of the MLK pageant and parade for the city of Garland. Bea’s work with Saint Luke continued right up to the point that her failing health would no longer permit her to go on. On Wednesday, June 7, 2017, Ms. Beatrice Lois Mosley peacefully answered the call of Jesus when He whispered in her ear “Come home and take your rest, my child.” She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Mosley Brown (2015), and her father, Titus Brown (2016).
