Mr. Ben Emil Tonick's Obituary
TONICK, BEN EMIL Of Dallas, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2007. Mr. Tonick was born on July 31, 1912 to John and Pearlie Tonick in Maxwell, Texas. He founded the Boys Baseball Inc of Texas in 1950 and served as the first president of BBI in 1950 and 1951. Ben retired from the Dallas Transit System after 39 years of service, starting as a streetcar operator and retiring as the first operations manager of DART and head of DFW Airport Operations. He was responsible for the initial design, coordination, and operation of the transportation system at DFW airport. Mr. Tonick is survived by his wife of 72 years, Velma; two sons, Larry Tonick and Jim Tonick, and wife Lynda; one daughter, Barbara Echols; grandchildren, Scott Tonick, and wife Cheryl, Bill Echols, Jill Jordan, and husband Hogan, Kim Henderson, and Justin Tonick; great grandchildren, Tyler and Courtney Tonick, Townley and Cade Jordan, and Avery Henderson. Mr. Tonick is preceded in death by seven brothers. Graveside services for Mr. Ben Tonick will be held at Restland Memorial Park at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 2, 2007.
