Benetta Lillian Diggs' Obituary
Benetta Lillian Diggs was born in Falls County, TX in 1924 to Joseph Simon and Lucy Childers-Simon. She accepted Christ at an early age while living with her grandparents Henry and Mahalia Childers on their farm in Lott, TX and attending Jerusalem Baptist Church. She attended school and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Later she met and married Harris Diggs and to this union was born a daughter, Shirley Ann Diggs and a son Kenneth Joseph Diggs. She was a loving mother and wife. She was a den mother to her children’s Brownie and Cub Scout troops. She owned and operated her own beauty salon, she taught Sunday school, sang in the mission chorus and was a deaconess at 8th St. Baptist Church where they all attended. In 1967 they moved to Dallas, TX. She and Harris would later divorce but she continued to serve in her community. She worked at Oak Cliff Medical registrar’s office. She attended Zion Hill Baptist and Union Baptist churches until accepting full membership at St. John Missionary Baptist church in 1984, under Pastor Emanuell Scott Sr. There she has served in the Day Missions, Seniors group Deaconesses and Truth seekers Sunday school class and much more. Her family and her church is what she loved most next to God. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, and grandson. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Kenneth J. Diggs; granddaughter, Shaunte` P. Watkins and four great-grands, Kourtney Watkins, Tamia Watkins, Major Kirk and Kwame Kirk Jr and a host of other relatives and friends. She has ran her race, finished her course and crossed over the finish line of Glory. We as your family love you, thank you, are proud of you and we’ll truly miss you. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church. Services will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
