Benjamin Franklin Thomas' Obituary
THOMAS, BENJAMIN F. Nov. 26, 1922 to Jan. 17, 2007. A loving husband, proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather went home to be with the Lord January 17, 2007. A longtime resident of Plano, Texas and husband to Frances for 64 years, they lived a wonderful life with their children and grandchildren. He retired in 1984 from Rockwell International (Alcatel) after 21 years of service. He was known to many as “Brother” or “Mr. Ben”. Ben Thomas was well known for his outstanding work in the Douglass Community and the City of Plano. He was a gifted leader and community volunteer who never gave up on his efforts. Ben was recognized as one of PISD’s “One Hundred Heroes”. He was the first recipient of the Plano YMCA Strong Community Award in 2004. He received a Certificate from the State of Texas for his volunteer service. He was a Charter Member of the National Management Association. He received the Meritorious Citizen Award from the Plano Chamber of Commerce in 1998. In April 2001, a gymnasium was named in his honor for his monumental efforts in the Community and the City. Ben served on numerous boards, committees, organizations, and task force until the time of his death. Ben is survived by his loving wife, Frances; Son, Mitchell; daughters, Toni, Dollie, and Areail; grandchildren: Cealee, Justin, Derrick (Kacey), Vernon, Veronica, Elliott, Elias and great-grandchild, Zaeria. A Wake will be held 6:00 – 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 920 East 14th Plano, TX 75074. Interment at Restland Memorial Park-Dallas, TX.
