Bennena Lou Ribble's Obituary
Bennena Lou Ribble was born on March 19, 1929, in Canton, TX to William Andrew Shrode and Willie Pearl Smith Shrode. She passed away on March 2, 2023, in Garland, TX, a few weeks short of her 94th birthday.
Bennena was named after her grandmother, Lillian Bennena Ringo Shrode, but she was known as SALLY all her life. The story goes that her Grandfather Shrode called her Sally after the song, Sally Goodin’, and the name stuck.
Sally was a 1946 graduate of Crozier Tech High School in Dallas where she was involved with the Library Council, Allied Youth, Tech Talk Staff, and the Two Year Bible course. She met the love of her life, James Ralph Ribble, Jr., at church and the two were married on April 27, 1947, by her uncle, H. D. Smith. Ralph, founder and musical director of The Town North Chapter for 25 years, and Sally had two daughters, Linda Ann and Sherry Sue. Sally was a bookkeeper and worked for Glen Day Accounting Firm for over 40 years. In 1997, Sally and Sherry went to work for Linda when Linda opened her own CPA/Accounting business. The business closed in 2019 and Sally retired. Sally had been in bookkeeping for over 60 years.
Sally was a lifelong believer in Christ, and until her health declined, she attended services at Highland Oaks Church of Christ. She was active in different areas, including being a Sunday service greeter. She loved attending the Thirty Niners group dinners and the entertainment that followed. Sally loved working crossword puzzles, and she looked forward to getting her newspaper each day to outsmart the daily puzzle. Sally was an accomplished seamstress and she loved to crochet. She was active in Helping Hearts at the Highland Oaks church where they made lap robes and bears for hospital patients. Sally was fond of watching NCIS and Blue Bloods. She was a big fan of Tom Selleclc.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph, her daughters, Linda Ribble and Sherry Willis, her two brothers, Billy and Bobby Shrode, and her two sisters, Doris Loden and Betty Harris. She is survived by her grandchildren, Kelly, Tammi, and Kevin Willis, son-in-law, Randy Willis, great granddaughter, Kristen Wilson and husband, Doug, great great grandchildren, Avery and Luca Wilson, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Services will be held at Highland Oaks Church of Christ, Dallas, TX on March 10, 2023, 9am Visitation and Celebration of Life at 10am. Burial will follow at Restland Memorial Park, Minister Pat Bills will officiate.
