Bernice McLeod Hamilton's Obituary
Bernice was born on November 27, 1922 in Garvin, Oklahoma, to Jordan M. McLeod and Virginia Ellen Williamson McLeod. She passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025 in Mesquite, Texas, at the age of 102.
She grew up in the Idabel area of Southeastern Oklahoma, attending Grey High School in Idabel, and Southeastern State Teachers College in Durant, Oklahoma. After the end of WWII, she moved to California along with her sister Belle McLeod Shawhart. Initially, Bernice and Belle both worked at the American Legion in Los Angeles. She later began a long career in banking, joining Santa Monica Bank in 1961. She retired from the bank in 1988 as an Assistant Vice President.
Bernice married her loving husband, James Alexander Hamilton, in 1967.
After retirement, Bernice and Jim moved to Rockwall, Texas to be near family. They eventually made their home at Greenway Village, Christian Care Center, in Mesquite, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, and her brothers Aubrey and J.B., and her sisters Maye, Belle and Dorothy. She is survived by a nephew, Alan Jones of Rancho Mirage, California.
