Berniece Cowne Derrington's Obituary
Berniece Cowne Derrington was born on May 25, 1930 and passed on January 25, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband and sweetheart James Cowne, her Dear husband Robert Derrington, brother James Rudy, and nephew Ed Bass. She leaves behind daughter Sharon Cowne, step-son Chris Derrington and wife Cheryl, beloved sister Nell Rudy and husband Bob Johnson, beloved brother George Rudy and wife Phyllis, adored nieces and nephews for whom she was known as Mimi: Bob Cowne, Jim Rudy, Jenelle Bonifield, Sharon Preston, Mike Rudy, Sondra Hawkins, Doug Rudy, Renada Henderson, Jennifer Robertson; and her wonderful step-grandchildren Kyle Derrington and Kristy Quinn. And, of course, her much loved dog, Sadie. Berniece was a Decades long member of Beta Sigma Phi and a life-long Democrat. She loved books, gardening, and animals and always had dogs and birds. Mom discovered a painting talent when she was 60 and left us some beautiful pieces of art. She was loved by many and loved many. She was smart, funny, sassy, sweet, and kind. And Lord knows how much her fudge will be missed. There were several families and friends that Mom had a special bond with. She and husband Jim had a wonderful group of friends that travelled together and all had properties together at Cedar Creek. The Walsers, Downeys, and Moores will always be very special. She was Mom #2 for the Sumner girls. She loved my Pepsi friends, Gail, Loretta, Cindy, and Shirley, and they loved her. Mom suffered from the advanced stages of Parkinson’s Disease and associated Dementia for the past 3 years. It finally became too much for her and she joined the Lord she very much believed in. I know she and Daddy are dancing together now. Services will be February 10, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Restland Funeral Home Richardson in the Abbey chapel. Great-niece Mandy Pathak will officiate. If you want to send flowers, please send Yellow, her favorite color. In lieu of flowers a donation to the National Parkinson’s Foundation or the Michael J Fox Foundation would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
