Bertha Hernandez Carabajal's Obituary
Bertha Hernandez Carabajal, lovingly known as "Momo" by her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and godchildren, passed away on January 14, 2024, in Garland, TX surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 12, 1942, in Beeville, TX, to her beloved parents Benino Hernandez and Maximiana Moa. Bertha's childhood was shaped by humble beginnings, where she learned the value of hard work and generosity. She grew up poor in tough times and always made the best of what she had. She played an essential role in caring for her family with her mother and then continuing to support her loved ones throughout her life.
Bertha had a vibrant spirit and a heart full of unconditional love for her family and friends. She found joy in cooking for others and ensuring that no one went hungry. She loved decorating for Christmas which was one of her favorite holidays. She was always on the go and loved to go to visit her friends and loved ones. Her sense of humor and sarcastic wit brought laughter to those around her, and her kindness and compassion left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Bertha was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she found solace and community.
Professionally, Bertha excelled as a Line Tech Supervisor at Mostec and TI for a combined total of 16 years. Additionally, she served as a warehouse manager at Top Ten Fundraisers for 11 years. In her free time, Bertha enjoyed crafting, watching sports—especially cheering on the Dallas Cowboys—and listening to Tejano (Selena and Little Joe) and country music like George Strait.
Bertha's greatest joy in life was her family. She shared 63 years of marriage with her beloved husband and best friend Ignacio Carabajal, and together they raised six children: Diego, Edward, Jaime, Joe Richard, Larry, and Joe Robert. Bertha was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always ensuring her loved ones were well cared for and loved. She would always say that she cooked you something “with all my heart” and if you showed up when there was food, she would lovely make you a plate. If you couldn’t stay to enjoy the food with her then she would pack up enough food to feed them and their family. Her homemade tortillas were a family favorite, and her generosity knew no bounds.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, sister Elda Hernandez Arredondo, son Diego Demolos, son Joe Richard Carabajal, grandson Robby Carabajal, granddaughter Priscilla Carabajal, grandson Diego Carabajal, and her beloved chihuahuas, Gizmo and Elmo.
She is survived by her husband, Ignacio Carabajal; sons Edward (Robin) Elizondo, Jaime Carabajal, Larry Carabajal, and Joe (Dawna) Carabajal; her grandchildren; Bobby Carabajal, Vanessa Carabajal, Heather Jo Elizondo, Edward Elizondo Jr., Aiden Gamez and Mason Gamez. Her great-grandchild; Marc Anthony Carabajal. Siblings Joe (Elia) Hernandez, Juan (Rose) Martinez, and Thomas Moa. Her God children Stephanie Hernandez and Aiden Gamez. Very special friends Fabian (Ashley) Gamez, Alma Salazar, Elizabeth Martinez, and Velva Haynes; and her cherished pets; Rocky, Zebo, Dirk, Leia, Bruno, Maverick, and Vito.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 1:30 pm with an inurnment immediately following the Mass at Restland Memorial Park 13005 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX.
Bertha will be remembered for her love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
