Bertha Geneva Harbour's Obituary
HARBOUR, B. GENEVA, Of Dallas, TX – Born July 16, 1921, in Garrett, TX. Passed away on November 19, 2019 at Presbyterian Village North, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. She is survived by 2 daughters (Linda and Marilyn); 1 son (William); 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. She is preceded into the presence of the Lord by her husband William S. Harbour, daughter Nancy Deehan, and son-in-law Wade Reed. She grew up in the Depression and picked cotton along with her brothers to help the family. In high school, she worked at the Ennis Tag Company, and later she worked at Clockwise Fashions in Dallas for 20 years. After all her children were on their own, she started another career working with kindergarten through 4th graders as a teachers assistant in the Dallas public schools. She was deeply loved by the children, who came from mostly underprivileged and immigrant families, and she nurtured them as if they were her own for the next 20 years. Despite many years of hard work, she never complained but loved serving others. She was a devoted member of the Vickery Baptist Church and then the First Baptist Church of Dallas for many decades. She was known for taking many long road trips across the country to visit family and friends who did not have the means to travel. She was a beloved mother, wife, sister, friend, and surrogate mother to many, and she will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm at Restland Funeral Home on Greenville Avenue in Dallas on Saturday, November 23, 2019. A funeral service will be held at Wildwood Chapel at 12:30 pm on Sunday, November 24, 2019. Interment to follow. Restland 972-238-7111 restlandfuneralhome.com
