Bessie Mae Louthan's Obituary
Bessie Mae (Bess) Long Louthan, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, left this life to meet her Savior on June 8, 2019. She was born in Kaufman County on February 4, 1931, the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. Bess married John D. Louthan on May 1, 1951, and they made their home in Dallas, Texas. She is survived by: her son Bill and his wife Lynn, of Whitney, Texas; her grandson Sam Clare of Portland, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. In recent years, her niece Bert Hooper and husband Gene, as well as her niece Carolyn Petty and husband Jim, assisted Bess greatly as her health declined. She was preceded in death by: her husband of over fifty years, John; their daughter, Debra Lynn Clare; and all eight of her siblings.A talented cook and seamstress, Bess was a homemaker virtually all of her married life. She enjoyed cooking and sewing for her family as well as playing bridge with friends, including multiple bridge clubs. Bess also prided herself on bargain shopping – her favorite store being the secondhand shop of the Salvation Army. She was an active member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas until her health minimized her involvement there in recent years. Since 2014, Bess resided at the Villages of Dallas (formerly Grace Presbyterian Village) where she enjoyed meeting and greeting new residents and helping them acclimate to their new surroundings. A special thanks to all the employees of the Villages of Dallas for providing compassionate, loving care for Bess, treating her as if she were a member of their family. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cliff Temple Baptist Church, 125 Sunset Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75208.
