Bette Jane "BJ" Fain's Obituary
Betty Jane (B.J.) Fain was born on June 4, 1922 and passed away on February 14, 2016. B.J. passed away peacefully on Valentine’s Day from Alzheimer’s. She was 93 years old. She grew up in Toledo, Ohio where she attended Central Catholic High School. B.J. graduated from University of Toledo in 1943, where she was a Chi-Omega Sorority sister with her B.A. in education she was the first graduate of the university to teach elementary school in California. Moving on to Dallas, Texas she became a hostess, as they were called then, for Braniff Airways. She flew for 3 ½ years from 1945 to 1948. B.J. continued her love of Braniff by becoming a “Clipped B” devoting many hours to charity work around the Dallas community. Traveling all over the world was a dream come true for her. She married Douglas W. Fain in 1960. She and her husband raised Santa Gertrudis cattle for many years at their ranch in Ladonia, Texas. She also worked at Bernard- Fain Carpets on Lovers Lane in Dallas, Texas for years until she retired. Being wife of a Dallas City Council Member for many years, she was very active with civic charities, The Dallas Civic Opera, The Dallas Symphony and many others she enjoyed it immensely. BJ is survived by her son Matthew Culmore (Patricia) and step daughter Tanya Mills (Ken), her granddaughter Jonetta Prewitt (Steven) and great grandchildren Brooks, Brylee, and Braydee. Her family, good friends and neighbors were her key to happiness. Her home was always open to them to share especially on the holidays. She was a devoted Parish member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church. Her joy will be missed. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer Association. Funeral service will be held at the Abbey Chapel Restland on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 3:00 PM. with interment in Section Y, Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
