Bette Jane Boring's Obituary
Bette Jane Boring, age 91, of Garland, TX was born October 24, 1932, in Cottonwood, TX to
Cora Belle Corley Welch and Arlie Benjamin Welch. She passed away on May 25. 2024. Early in her life,
her mother married Otis Brent Hyde. She always considered Otis Brent Hyde to be her real father.
Bette was a Majorette at Greiner Jr. High and Sunset High School in Dallas. She graduated from Sunset High School in 1950. She married her high school sweetheart, Ernest Lee Boring Jr. on April 21,1951. After having five children by the age of 31, she took a college course at El Centro Jr. College in Dallas. She did well and was determined to earn her degree. Her family obligations led her to attend college, at night, to meet the requirements to move on to East Texas State University. She graduated with honors, in 1972, with degrees in art and education. She began teaching in the fall of 1972 for the Garland Independent School District while, at the same time, working on her Master's Degree at night. She received her Master's Degree in Education in the fall of 1975 from Stephen F. Austin University. In the early 1980s, she became interested in Real Estate and earned her Real Estate license in 1984. Her teaching career began in middle school, moved to high school and ended in elementary school. She taught for 26 years and retired in 1998.She touched the lives of many students, of different ages, with her creativity, enthusiasm, love of art, and love of teaching.
Bette had many close friends and enjoyed bowling leagues, traveling, and playing bridge. She made trips to Canada and several trips to Europe. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ernest Lee Boring, Jr.; daughter, Michelle Fitzgerald; son, Mark Boring; and son in law, Howard Ayers.
Bette is survived by: Sons, Michael Boring (Wife: Jeri Boring) and Marshall Boring; Daughter: Melinda Avers, Brother: Brent Hyde; Son in Law: Robert Fitzgerald; Brothers in Law: Joe Boring, David Brimager, Arlie Boring, and Larry Boring; Sister-in-Law: Debbie Caldwell; Grandchildren: Eric Fitzgerald, Ryan Fitzgerald, Stephanie Patak, Howard Michael Ayers, Brittany Ayers, Larissa Barias, Larimar Boring, Zachary Boring, Kristen Cantrell, Brandon Boring, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
