Bettie Doris Lamm's Obituary
LAMM, BETTIE WADE 79, of Denton, TX passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 with her husband and daughters by her side. Her death came as a result of complications while undergoing treatment for lymphoma. Bettie was born on October 31, 1934 in Commerce, TX to Merle Hinkle and Annie Sue Clark Wade. She graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas, TX in 1953. Bettie married Bobby Joe Lamm in their newly purchased home in Garland, TX on August 1, 1953. They lived in Garland until 1996, when they moved to Denton, TX. Bettie was always active in her community and her daughters’ schools. While in Garland she served as PTA President, President of the Garland League of Women Voters, on the Garland Planning and Zoning Commission, on the Garland City Council, and as Director of the Garland YWCA. In Denton, she was the Volunteer Coordinator for UNT’s Environmental Sciences Center, served as sponsor for several families for Habitat for Humanity, and was a national ambassador for the Environmental Alliance for Senior Involvement. At the time of her death, she was volunteering with Meals on Wheels. In her free time, Bettie liked to read, watch HGTV, and work at least one Sudoku puzzle each day. She and Bobby loved to travel. They visited several foreign countries and all fifty states. She is survived by her husband of sixty years. She is also survived by her daughters, Leslie Whitaker, of Frisco; and Laura Click, of Highland Village; and by her granddaughters, Ashley Williams and Leah Whitaker, both of Plano; one brother and two sisters also survive her. Visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, TX on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 12:00 PM at Restland’s Abbey Chapel, with burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
