Betty Lou Landress Barbosa's Obituary
Betty Lou Landress Barbosa, age 93, passed away on October 5, 2023. Betty was born February 25, 1930, in Dallas, Texas, to Vernon Amos Hamilton and Jessie Mae Scott Hamilton. Betty was a caring mother, devoted wife, and talented musician.
After graduating from North Dallas High School, she attended Texas State College for Women (TWU) where she graduated with honors. Although prepared to teach music in Dallas public schools, Betty happily became a stay-at-home wife and busy mother to three daughters.
Betty dedicated her weekends to shepherding her children at dance lessons, piano recitals and competitions, and to sailing with her husband Bernie at the White Rock Sailing Club.
Betty had a deep passion for classical music and was an accomplished violinist and vocalist.
Her lifelong love of music was evident in her later career as a piano teacher, where she shared her knowledge with aspiring junior musicians.
Betty is survived by her three daughters, Laura Landress, Linda Willis, and Sharon Landress Hasting, as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Kemper Burnice "Bernie" Landress and Richard Barbosa, and her brother, Vernon Amos Hamilton, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland in Dallas on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Betty's memory.
Her family remembers Betty Lou Landress Barbosa for her humor, love, and devotion. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
