Betty Coulon Bordelon's Obituary
Betty Coulon Bordelon, 83, of Richardson, Texas, passed away after surgery on September 10, 2023.
Betty was born on November 28, 1939, to Houston and Sybil (Ducote) Coulon in Hessmer, Louisiana. After graduating from high school, she studied cosmetology and married her high school sweetheart, Don Bordelon, on July 4, 1959.
Newly married, Don and Betty moved to Houston and Dallas, where Betty worked as a manicurist. Her most exciting memory during that time was manicuring John Wayne's nails.
When the couple became parents in 1968, Betty dedicated her time to caring for her child and being a homemaker. Drawing from her Louisiana roots, Betty was an excellent cook. She was a talented seamstress, making clothes for family and friends. She often made evening wear for herself and her loved ones. She was gifted with her hands and excelled at embroidery, crochet, macrame, and various crafts. Her most powerful weapons were her needle, thread, and glue gun.
This attention to detail and fine motor skills led her to a second career in the defense and tech industry, working for Texas Instruments and Honeywell, where she formed lasting friendships.
Betty was intelligent and loved reading, observing hummingbirds and butterflies, gardening, and playing with her Pomeranian Mitzi. She was a loving grandmother to her two grandsons.
Betty was predeceased by Don, her husband of almost 60 years, her siblings, Dale and Ronald Coulon, and her parents, Houston and Sybil (Ducote) Coulon.
She is survived by her children Paul (Whitney) and Candace Bordelon and her grandsons, Petty Officer 3rd Class Riker Newcomer of the U.S. Navy and Zachary Newcomer.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.
