Betty LaVerne Childress' Obituary
Betty LaVerne Childress was born on October 26, 1928 in Healdton, Oklahoma, and passed away in Chicago, Illinois on June 27, 2018. Born Betty Jones, she wed Charles “Chuck” Childress on June 11, 1955. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2007. Betty and Chuck made their home in Farmers Branch, Texas and were charter members of that city’s Christ United Methodist Church. In 2005 Betty and Chuck celebrated their 50th anniversary at CUMC. Betty graduated from Texas Tech University and worked for the Chevrolet division of General Motors for many years as an administrative assistant and sales analyst. She was active in United Methodist Women and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Her generosity, humor, and strength made her a pillar of her extended family. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Childress Carr; son, Charles Clinton Childress; son-in-law, Michael Paul Carr; and grandchildren, Victoria Rose Carr and Benjamin Childress Carr. She is also survived by nieces, Barbara Woods, and Kendra Heald; and nephews, Stanley Ferguson and David Mahrer. A funeral service for Betty LaVerne Childress will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday June 30, 2018 at the Restland Abbey Chapel.
