I grew up knowing that Betty was one of the very best friends of my grandmother, Bessie, from childhood. They even moved from East Texas from Dallas in the 1940s, to work for Southwestern Bell. Before leaving for Dallas, my granny would often tell me stories of Betty, her twin sister, Nelly, and my granny doing their part for the the war support, on the grenade assembly line at Lone Star. Once, one of the granades went off, and turned Betty’s hair orange! After moving to Dallas, my grandmother moved in with Betty and her sister in a boarding house. They always had good, clean fun, but had a blast! They often went roller skating at Fair Park and played practical jokes on each other. My grandmother told me they forever ate ranch beans and fried potatoes, but had a roast beef open faced sandwich on payday. Betty and Bessie’s friendship lasted for lifetime, and Betty recited a gospel song with lyrics, “you’re my forever friend” every day to my granny.
Betty was a special person with much co passion. She will never be forgotten.
