Betty Jo Gilbert's Obituary
Betty Gilbert, 89, returned to her heavenly home on July, 20, 2017, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in this struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Betty was born to the late Ben and Beula Cox, in Dallas, TX on June 2, 1928 and was blessed with a large and loving family. Betty married her best friend, Lee Troy Gilbert, on January 10, 1948. Betty and Troy raised three children with patience and love, teaching them to love God, love family, and love others. Betty loved children and spent many years pouring into the children in her community. She was employed by Dallas Independent School District and Canton Independent School District. Once retired, she continued pursuing her passion of helping children by becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate with CASA for Kids of East Texas. Betty was kind yet outspoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how big or small. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Betty is survived by her husband, Troy; son Gary Gilbert; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Don Hirschfeld; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Annette Gilbert; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and countless others that affectionately called her Granny.
