Betty Jo Gordon's Obituary
Gordon, Betty born on March 27, 1925 in Abilene, TX and passed away on April 26, 2016 in Richardson, TX. Highland Park High School graduate, wife of Colonel Robert E. Gordon and Mother of four: Bob, Bill, Bonnie and Brad Gordon. Betty went Home to be with her Lord on April 26th peacefully in her sleep. Betty was preceded into eternity by her husband, Bob, seventeen years earlier. He was the love of her life. They were engaged in 1943 and Betty waited and prayed for Bob while he served as a USAF pilot in Europe during World War II. Upon Bob’s return, they were married on October 24, 1945, in Dallas at the Sacred Heart which today is known as the Cathedral Guadalupe Church. They started their adventure together traveling throughout the U.S., Morocco, and around the world. Betty will be best remembered as a Child of God and avid witness of the Lord Jesus Christ. She asked Jesus into her heart at the age of 12 and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Dallas by the late Dr. George W. Truett. In addition to being a wife and mother, she enjoyed helping start new churches from Oklahoma to Connecticut. She was the church pianist, Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Director as well as past President of the WMU (Women’s Missionary Union) for the New England Association of Southern Baptist Churches. The past three decades she had been an active member of the Big Springs Baptist Church in Garland while residing in Richardson. She is survived by her four children, her younger brother, George Robert Freeman, 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and her beloved nieces and nephews. Betty’s motto “Victory in Jesus”. Family will receive friends on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Big Springs Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
