Betty Harris' Obituary
Betty Cox Harris, age 65, died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 29, 2012. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 2nd from 5:30-7:30pm at Restland Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Thursday, May 3rd, at noon at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. She was a strong Christian lady who always put her family first. Betty was a dedicated, loving wife, mother and grandmother, who desired nothing more than to spend time with her family and grandchildren. Betty was born February 23, 1947 in Dallas and graduated from Kimball High School in 1965. Betty attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. After graduating in 1969, she taught elementary school in Dallas until she married Don Harris in 1972. Betty was baptized at age 12 and her church was a main focus in her life. In her adult life Betty gave her passion, faith and energy to many leadership roles at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. She was a vital part of the Koinonia Sunday School Class as well as being involved with the United Methodist Women, LLUMC Leadership Board, LLUMC Youth Group, and most recently with the Senior Adult Ministry. She was a member of the Shades of Green Garden Club and served as president from 1992-1993. She was involved with the Dallas Alpha Delta Pi Alumni Association, Cub Scout Den Leader, and numerous other clubs and school committees. Later in life, after her two children were grown, she reentered the classroom at Wesley Prep, enjoying fully the inspiration and rewards of teaching. Once retired, Betty continued to show the love and care for each of her students as a substitute teacher. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Emily Cox and brother, Wayne. Betty grew up in a loving and happy home surrounded with many relatives. Her mother was her best friend and the person she most admired. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Don Harris and their children: Darren Harris and his wife, Emily of Frisco: Allison Harris Newman and her husband Matt of San Antonio; and her beloved grandchildren, Dayne Harris and Kate Newman and a host of cousins, other extended family and very close friends.
