Betty Lou Hatfield's Obituary
Betty Lou Hatfield passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018, in Dallas, TX at the age of 85 due to heart failure. Betty was born on November 20, 1932, in the small, west Texas town of Ralls to loving, hard-working parents —Buril and Ida Priddy. She always had her sights on the “big city,” and moved to Dallas as soon as she could. Not long after landing in Dallas, Betty met her lifelong love Jerry Hatfield and they married August 17, 1957. Betty was not a typical 1950’s gal. She was a maverick for this era; she attended college at SMU, worked at CBS news and eventually was the CFO in their family-run business, Countdown Couriers—a male-dominated delivery industry. Betty was smart and quick-witted. She tutored and mentored Dallas high school students and was an avid reader—powering through multiple books a week. As a busy wife and mother, her interests were broad and diverse. She loved to travel, was a Cub Scouts Leader, a member of Lover’s Lane Methodist Church, and enjoyed the fine arts: opera, all types of music, theatre and museums. Yet, this highly cultured woman was a devoted fan of the Texas Rangers and knew more about baseball than most men! Maybe it was because of her maverick-like nature that Betty was also a Mavericks fan…and yes, she loved her Cowboys, too.Betty is preceded in death by spouse, Jerry Hatfield, her sister Frances Dendy and brother Joe Priddy.Betty is survived by two sisters, Nell LedBetter of Lubbock, TX and Mary Gillon of Ralls, TX; four children: Lisa Matthews of Rio Vista, TX; Paul Hatfield and spouse Krista Castillo of Carrollton, TX and children—David, Sarah and Chance Hatfield, Katie and Nathan Redding, Andrew and Ali Castillo. Carla Wiechman of Lago Vista, TX, and children—Kevin Sterling, Lexy and Nathan Akers, Bradley and Nathan Wiechman. Chris Hatfield and spouse Kathy Hatfield of Cedar Park, TX and children—Ryan and Melissa Hatfield, Amanda and Chris Fournier, and Cassidy, Jerry and Destiny Hatfield. Betty had 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed!Visitation will be at Restland Funeral Home: 6:00pm-8: 00 pm Friday, August 10, 2018.
