Betty Jane Holmes' Obituary
On March 23, 2012, we lost one of the sweetest person’s in the world. Betty Holmes was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend to all those who knew her. Betty was born in Rosendale, MO. She lived her first 17 years in the country on the family farm. She graduated from Rosendale High School in Missouri. She was the Apple Blossom Queen in St. Joseph, MO during her high school years and won other contests in North West, MO. Betty had a special love for her grandsons. She loved having them around her, especially during weekends and holidays, where she could display her special cooking talents. Betty enjoyed watching her grandsons competing in their many sporting events, and wouldn’t miss a game. She loved spending quality time in her garden caring for her flowers, plants and landscaping. She was married to Tom, the love of her life, for 52 years. She was an avid reader, and a member of the Canyon Creek Country Club Book Club. Betty was such a graceful tennis player. She spent many years playing at both competitive and recreational levels with her many friends of the Canyon Creek Country Club. She attended Chase Oaks Church in Plano, TX. Betty was loved by her family, friends and everyone around her who appreciated dearly her kindness of heart, her generosity and sweetness. She is preceded in death by brothers, Billie McDonald and Richard McDonald; parents, Win and Bertha McDonald and daughter-in-law, Kelly Ricker Holmes. Betty is survived by husband, Thomas Holmes; son, Jeffrey Holmes; daughter Lisa Holmes; grandchildren, Tyler Homes and Brock Thomas; brothers Bob McDonald, Jim McDonald and Larry McDonald; sisters Thelma McAllister, Mary Lou Coutts, JoAnn Hayden and Sherry Zimmerman. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Methodist Cancer Center, 401 W. Campbell Rd., Richardson, TX 75080. Family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday, March 26, 2012 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:30pm Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Restland Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park.
