Betty Crockett Johnson's Obituary
Betty Crockett Johnson was born to Clarence David Crockett and Nancy Lewis Crockett on January 23, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia. Betty passed away of natural causes on March 4, 2016 at the age of 92. She married the love of her life Gifford Kenneth Johnson of Santa Barbara, California on June 10, 1944 in Nashville, Tennessee. She was devoted to him through 65 years of marriage. Betty’s life revolved around her husband and the rearing of their three children – Craig, Dane and Janet. She was also deeply involved with her community and her faith. As a lifetime member of Preston Hollow United Methodist Church she was involved in teaching Sunday School, Bible Study and was President of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was a member of Dallas Civic Opera Guild, State Fair Summer Musicals Guild, Northwood Golf Association and The Dallas Woman’s Club. She also volunteered at Contact Crisis Intervention and was a part of many neighborhood civil projects and drives. Together she and Gifford supported multiple charities, their most proud achievement being the Betty and Gifford Johnson Graduate Scholarship Endowment. Betty was fun, kind and quick with a joke. She always made time for everyone, remembering it is not what you say to people so much as how you treat them. Preceding Betty in her death were her husband Gifford, eldest son Craig, her brother Louis David Crockett, as well as her mother and father Nancy Lewis Crockett and Clarence David Crockett. Betty is survived by her son Dane, his wife Ann and their son Evan (Wilmington, NC); her daughter Janet Heutel and her husband Jim (Dallas, TX). Also by her granddaughter Heather Rogers, her husband Richey and their children Dalton and Parker (Austin, TX); and her granddaughter Erika Ortado, husband Vince and their daughter Kayla (Woodinville, Washington). Additionally, by her dear sister-in-law Winifred Crockett and her family. Memorial service to be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 12, 2016.
