Betty Jane Lavergne's Obituary
LAVERGNE, BETTY JANE “Mimi” of Richardson, Texas joined her heavenly family on April 16, 2014. Born January 31, 1929 in Beaumont, Texas, she is survived by her devoted husband Arthur, 63 years of marriage. Her surviving children, Angie Hudnall, Willie Lavergne, Lee Lavergne, Nina Tucker, Aaron Lavergne and their significant others, Don, Brenda, Kerry and Pedro. Her beloved surviving grandchildren are Ashleigh, Westin, Austin, Allie, Tyler, Tanner, and Brittany and their significant others Brad, Rachael and Cameron. Mimi has four great grandchildren Cayden, Garrett, Harper and Graham. Betty has two surviving brothers Yerby and Jimmy Hughes with several nieces and nephews. Betty was raised in the Texas Golden Triangle “Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange” where she graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in 1946 and was a proud member of the Bengal guards marching band. Art and Betty met in 1950 on a tennis date where the match ended in LOVE and were married soon after that. She was a stay home mom for the majority of her children’s years; however she stayed close to her children by working in the St. Paul School Cafeteria. Betty was the girls’ basketball coach at St. Pauls and always sought professional advice from her sister the real Coach Bobby Landry. Betty began selling appliances for Whirlpool, her nick name became the Barracuda. When her grandchildren arrived Betty stopped working and devoted her time to her grandchildren. She was active in St. Paul’s Catholic Church Women’s Guild. She was a three time Cancer survivor; however the fourth time finally won. Everyone loved her and wanted to call her Mom. Betty was a Matriarch. Not many women have a devoted family, dedicated nurse, loving care giver, caring house keeper, devoted beautician and diverse range of friends. Betty, Wife, Mother, Mimi, Sis, Aunt and friend will be missed. Betty’s Celebration of Life will be Monday April 21, 2014 Viewing 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 South Floyd Road, Richardson, TX 75080 .
