Betty Jean Morris' Obituary
Betty Jean Morris, 92, passed away on June 22, 2021, after a brief illness. Betty was born in Sadler, Texas in 1928, to Gene and Bess Huffman. She moved to Dallas upon graduation from high school and began work at Southwestern Bell Telephone. There she met the love of her life, Jimmy. Betty’s circle of friends was huge. She enjoyed entertaining, often hosting family gatherings and rowdy parties. She was a great cook, famous for her German chocolate cakes. She also loved animals, especially her dogs, Phydeaux and Benson.
As their children grew up, Betty and Jimmy discovered a love of casinos. They made numerous trips to Las Vegas until Jimmy’s health began to decline. Then they settled for trips to nearby casinos. They also enjoyed being founding members of the W. Celeste poker club, where many a wild game was played.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Jimmy, son David Morris, and sister Charlotte Starkey. She is survived by daughter Michelle Copeland (Fred), brother Arthur Huffman, daughter-in-law Glenda Morris, grandchildren Jimmy and Rachel Morris, adopted granddaughter Cary Bailey, step-granddaughter Marisa Benham, step-great granddaughter Scarlett Benham, niece and nephews Shannon, Mike and Matt Starkey, and adopted daughter Carolyn Amrich.
