Betty Jean Owens' Obituary
Betty Jean Owens passed away at the age of 82. Loved and surrounded by family, she was kept by God for all eternity, October 18, 2018.She was born April 1, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was placed in an orphanage and she and her brother, Carl, went to live with Lloyd and Edith Dalton in 1940. They adopted her and Carl in 1949. She said the best thing that happened to her as a youth was being placed in a home and having a Mother and Daddy. Other brothers and sisters were Carrie Tarwater, Marcine Martin, Chester Carr, Pauline Harris, and Norman Carr.She attended high school in Corryton TN and afterward attended business school learning dictation and other skills that led her into a career as a legal secretary which she enjoyed until retirement.She met her future husband, Glenn Marvin Owens when she took her first vacation in 1955 to visit her brother Carl in Dallas, Texas. She married Glenn August 7, 1958, and they were married for 45 years.Her hobbies included fishing, road trips, and camping. She liked working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, many times enjoying a Texas Ranger’s game at the same time. She and her daughter shared a love of music and singing and took delight in impromptu duets. She also relished playing shuffleboard and was so competitive at it that people lovingly called her “Cut-throat Betty”.She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Marvin Owens. She is survived by her two children Dallas and Donna, sister Carrie, grandchildren: Dono, Mac, Kacie, Boomer, Drew, Charlcie, Jennifer, and Rachel. Great grandchildren; Aubrey, Beckett, Chandler, and Olivia.With a loving heart and a great sense of humor, she enjoyed people and had many friends from VFW Post 6796 and VFW Post 8785. We will miss her.“Always young that’s our Betty – On the go and always ready.”The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. The address is 13005 Greenville Avenue. Dallas, TX 75243. Memorial service will immediately follow at 12:00.
