Your mother was beautiful Laura. I know where you and Rachel get your good looks from! You and your family were such a blessing to your mother. She was loved. God bless your family and prayers that you find peace in knowing your mother had a wonderful life, full of love and she is with God now. Brenda Rizos

From Mark Way We lost a very kind and most generous lady today, my Aunt Betty. There will not be enough words i can say that will sum up how i really feel about her. From the time i was 13 getting in trouble with my brother and her kids, Chris and Laura, Betty and my mom were always there for us. Didn't matter what we had done they loved us unconditionally. There was a time in my life where i was sick of being a construction worker. Betty, who had worked at her job for well over 30 years, put her reputation on the line for me and got me a job with her company. One really fun Christmas party and a few months later i decided the cotton business was not for me. Betty let me give my notice and leave with no embarrassment to her. In 2009 when construction fell apart she put me to work at her house. Betty always cared about me and never passed judgement on me. It has been my privilege and honor to be blessed with a person like this in my life. Aunt Betty you will be missed so much and I love you dearly. I will close by saying i think we all can take comfort in knowing she was a Christian and is where we all should be so lucky to go.

Aunt Betty was a champion for my career plans. I loved to sew and design and planned to go to TWU (her Alma Mater) and become a fashion designer. Well, that wasn?t to be. My daddy lost his City of Mesquite job after a city election replacing the City Manager to whom he reported. I was a junior at Mesquite high school, I figured my going to college was ?toast.? So, I abandoned those plans and instead I married, raised my family and when my youngest started to UT, I did, too. I was 42 and pursuing a career in fashion is a career for a young, energetic, go getter, which I was not young or nearly energetic enough. But, Aunt Betty and I talked about my previous career choice and she always made me feel that I really had the potential to make it in that demanding career. I always took pride in that notion. When I became a CPA instead, she championed that career choice and admired the quilt projects I created instead of fashion. After our Mother passed away and we no longer had a family place to gather, Aunt Betty and Uncle Ray graciously opened their home to many occasions when we wanted to gather together in the Dallas area, for instance when our brother, Jimmy and sister-in-law, Rosaria would come in from Italy. There were a lot of family that were eager to see them and it took place at their home. Uncle Ray would kid around, saying he and Betty were our new parents. After Uncle Ray passed away and subsequently, Jimmy, Aunt Betty continued to host our family gatherings and we would enjoy Chris and Laura (and their families) and the music videos of Uncle Ray playing the piano. Aunt Betty and I would sometimes disappear into the guest bedroom where she was eager to show me the old quilt pieces she had found in some of her Mother?s things. My family and I live in Austin and if I could have been there, I would have made it a point to come to Sunday dinner at Aunt Betty and Uncle Ray?s house to share in the wonderful meals she was always creating. I have quite a few of her prized recipes. She filled her home, her family with love, showered them with love and was loved, most dearly in return. I love her and will miss her so much. My heart breaks those who will miss her even more. Love, Sandy Diaz
