Betty Jean Phipps' Obituary
Betty Jean Phipps, who celebrated 92 years on this Earth, passed away on December 17, 2020 in Garland, Texas.
Betty was born in Clayton, New Mexico on December 1, 1928 to Homer and Willie Mae (Clayborn) Norris.
Being the first born on her family’s farm, she was relied upon to both lead her siblings and serve in the cotton and corn fields that provided for her family’s livelihood. Marrying Billy Joe Phipps in 1953, she became a war-time bride as he served during the final days of the Korean War. Upon his return, they started the rest of their lives together having two beautiful daughters, Patsy Jean and Nancy Ann. She lost her love in 1989 and turned her attention to volunteering at New Liberty Baptist Church, working in Garland ISD while actively supporting her daughters and their families with their endeavors.
She is fondly remembered by many for her quick wit, spunky charm and enduring spirit. This legacy continues in many of her heirs! Betty is preceded in death by husband, Billy Joe Phipps,; parents, Homer & Willie Norris; Brothers, Cecil, Bobby and Bill Norris; Sister, Ruby Crump.
