Betty Ruth Christner Hopper's Obituary
Betty Ruth (Christner) Hopper passed away on Aug 6 2020.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sidney and Ruth Christner and two sisters, Bessie Kordis and Beryl Deaton and her husband G.C. Hopper and son Gary.
Betty was born on July 7, l926 in Oklahoma and attended her first twelve years in the Deer Creek School system, Edmond, Oklahoma and graduated from there in 1944. She attended the University of Central Oklahoma where she met and married her husband G.C. Hopper and they were married 47 and a half years at the time of his death in l994. She received a Bachelor of Science in 1947 and worked several years in the Accounting office
of Harper-Turner Oil Company in Oklahoma City.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Betty Sue Hopper of Oklahoma City; sons: Tommy Scot Hopper of Oklahoma City and Rocky Lee Hopper of Dallas, Texas; Granddaughters: Krista Hopper Lancaster of Oklahoma City, Kasey Hopper Tremble of Florida and Robin Sue Gardner and husband Travis of Oklahoma City; Great Grandsons: Noah and Joshua Lancaster of Oklahoma City, and Giovanni of Florida, many nieces and nephews and many friends. She had three special friends that she called her “adopted daughters" that she thought so much of, they were Prissy Shaffer, Karen Ellis and Susan Bell.
Before moving to Dallas in 1978, Betty was active in all the schools her children attended and held many offices in P.T.A., Camp Fire Leader, Boy Scouts, Bible school director and etc.
In 1965, she received the Ford Motor Company Community Service Program Award for her many services to the Oklahoma City Community.
In Dallas, she was on the Board for ten years to the Dallas-Richardson Christian Women’s Club. Betty was always giving of herself to others and toward many lives. She was very active in her church Spring Valley United Methodist Church and with community services. She had a positive outlook on life and through her compassion helped others in the Stephen Ministry. She never lost faith in God and the path she walked was with Him every day. In her Sunday School Class “The Beacons”, she was for many years Sunshine of Joys and Concerns. She also served as President of U.M.W for four years and was chairperson for the Arts and Crafts Group for four years She worked for thirty-two years in Arts and Crafts. She was quite proud of the James Avery Mission Cross necklace she received from the U.M.W.
She loved her family and was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and great Grandmother that had many titles, Mom, Mother, Mama, Lady, Grandlady, Lady Mom Hop, MiMi and Momma H. Her flowers and her garden and her Boston Terriers pets were indeed a unique part of her life.
She will be remembered for her loving kindness and sense of humor. She took delight in spending time with family, friends traveling and reading and she called the church her second home.
