Betty Margaret Savage's Obituary
Betty Margaret Savage passed away peacefully on June 15th at age 98 following a lengthy decline in her health. A lifelong Dallas area resident, Betty was a long time member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, and a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and SMU. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, several SMU Faculty related groups and Lakewood Country Club. Betty was married for 59 years to her soulmate, John Alexander Savage, and their lives revolved around their family, church, the SMU community, and the many service organizations they participated in. Betty’s favorite roles were as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, “Mimi” was a constant source of love, support, and encouragement to all of her loved ones. Betty cherished her friends and maintained strong, loving relationships with many for decades. She had the heart of a servant, an abiding faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior, the sweetest disposition, and a gentle spirit that brought joy to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed but will leave a legacy that lives on in her family and friends. She has been reunited in Heaven with her sweet husband where they will reside peacefully for eternity.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, H.C. and Margarette Rast, her husband John, and granddaughter Amelia. Betty is survived by her son and wife John and Anna Savage of Seattle, WA and their children Justin, Jessica, and Mark; son and wife Bill and Jeri Savage of Parker, TX and their son Blake and son and wife Grant and Emma Savage; daughter and husband Debbie and Jon Alspaw of Dallas, their daughter and husband Alyssa and Scott Hinckley, their son and wife Cameron and Carley Alspaw; great-grandchildren Whit, Lindy, Mary Tate and Hank Alspaw; Addison and Hudson Hinckley.
The Family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the loving care provided by the staff of The Terrace at Presbyterian Village North where Betty spent her final years, and the staff of Faith Presbyterian Hospice who made her final days so peaceful and comforting.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 17th at 11:00 AM in Monie Chapel on the Campus of Presbyterian Village North, 8600 Skyline Drive in Dallas. A private burial will follow. Memorials may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, The Journey Ministry, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75205, Faith Presbyterian Hospice, 12477 Merit Drive, Dallas, TX 75251, or the charity of your choice.
