Betty Scarborough's Obituary
Betty Hahn Scarborough was born November 27, 1938 to Agnes Wilkerson Hahn and Arthur James Hahn. Her father disappeared shortly after her birth. After a period of time, her mother’s brother, Herman Wilkerson, came in a cattle truck to move the family to Big Spring, Texas to live with her
parents, Clem and Cora Wilkerson. She attended the Big Spring Schools and graduated shortly after her marriage to Larry Coy Scarborough. They had no
children. Betty had started working for JC Penney Company at age 14 as a student in the Big Spring High School Work-study Program. She continued to work for Penney’s after her husband was transferred to Houston. She was promoted to the Dallas Home office and then on to New York City where she was successful as a buyer for the New York and Miami, Florida Districts. She traveled the world markets to clothe the Penny customer in moderately
priced, but fashionable clothing. She was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes Wilkerson Hahn Altom Andrea; her brothers, Granville and Wendell Hahn; and sisters, Iris Hahn Carter and Linda Glenn. She is survived by Fred Altom and wife, Shirlene, and Jerry Altom and wife, Cheryl; sister-in-law, Marie Hahn and Vinnie Hahn; her sister, Doris Hahn Haynes and brother-in-law, Dwayne Haynes. She was loved and cherished by her family.
