Bettye Ruth Sloan's Obituary
Bettye Ruth (Newton) Sloan, 89, passed away peacefully in her home in Garland, Texas on June 24th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Bettye was born in Bailey, Texas on April 13, 1937 to parents, Vernon and Ruth Newton. She grew up in Ector, Texas alongside her three brothers Curly, Bob and Jim. She enjoyed school and was a member of the Ector High Basketball team. She was a good student, graduating in 1955 as Valedictorian of her class.
Bettye married Naamon Sloan and they moved to Dallas to start a Drywall business. They also later spent time as Tupperware Distributors both in Odessa, Texas and Garland, Texas. Bettye retired from Tupperware.
After retirement, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literary Studies from UT Dallas in 1997, at the age of 60.
Later, she pursued her interest in painting, and became a talented artist.
Bettye is preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, her son, Randy Sloan, and her husband of 51 years. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Terri Thompson and her husband, Bob, her two grandsons, Shane and wife, Sherri, and Todd; great-granddaughters Shelby and partner Holly, Tia, Madison, and husband, Travis, Ericka and husband, Garrett; and great-great-grandchildren River, Colton, Cian and Maeve.
