Bettye Jean Smithey's Obituary
Bettye Jean Smithey, 88, was called to her heavenly home on February 17, 2020 after living a blessed life full of faith, family and friends.
Jean was born September 16, 1931 in Greenville, Alabama. In her teen years, she moved to Mobile, AL where she met her future husband, Billy Smithey. They were married in Lucedale, MS in November of 1948. After Billy left the Army Air Corp. the couple moved to Wolfe City, TX to farm. After an unsuccessful few years of farming they moved to Dallas, TX in 1951. She had several occupations throughout the years: a loving housewife, school bus driver for Christian Schools, Inc. and food service manager for Garland ISD. She ended her career working in the credit department at JCPenney for 21 years.
She is survived by her children, Stan Smithey of Garland, TX; Steve Smithey of Rockwall, TX; Billy Smithey Jr. and wife Brenda, of Lake Worth, TX; and Jan Smithey Hahn and husband Jim, of Waco, TX. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Heather McGee and husband Mac, Allison Stevens and husband Courtney, Ashley Grammer and husband Stephen, Ryan Smithey and wife Priscilla, Emilie Franklin and husband Jack, Sarah Warger and husband Jeff, Addison Smithey, Keith Vrba and wife, Haven, Cate Vrba-Christie and husband, Darryl, Beth Hahn, JoLyn Kile and husband Dylan and Caroline Hahn; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and her brother, Bobby Cryer and wife, Iran, of Mobile, AL.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Courtyard at Christian Care Center for all the love and care given to our mother and grandmother especially over the last few months.
Visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Thursday February 20th at Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, TX. Services will be held at 10am, Friday, February 21st at Saturn Road Church of Christ in Garland, TX.
