Beulah Marguerite Kendall's Obituary
KENDALL, MARGUERITE BURBA HILSCHER lived a very happy 89 years and passed away peacefully on July 23, 2008. Born in Rosser, Texas, on March 6, 1919, to Claude and Beulah Burba, Marguerite was one of three children. A woman of the WWII generation, Marguerite was self-reliant, hard working and a great mother. She grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Adamson High School in 1937. Marguerite kept in close contact with many friends upon graduation, including a brief romance with Joe Kendall. But like many of the WWII generation, Marguerite and Joe became separated and both forged ahead with their adult lives. Marguerite began working at Sears as a bookkeeper in 1937. She married in 1941 and began her family in 1944 with the birth of her son, Edward George, Jr., followed by Barbara and Janice. Marguerite juggled raising children and her career. Marguerite raised her three children during some fun times in Kessler Park, with many of the ‘kid’ activities and great neighborhood friends. She worked many years for Wyeth Labs before her retirement. She began her ‘retirement’ by moving to Preston Tower and started working for the Harding Oil Company. When she was not working, Marguerite honed her bridge skills with weekly bridge games enjoyed by many at Preston Tower. In May, 1993, Marguerite reconnected with the love of her life, Joe Kendall. They had been separated for a lifetime and after a whirlwind courtship, Marguerite and Joe married in August, 1993. After their marriage, Marguerite and Joe were rarely apart. They made Preston Tower their home, where Marguerite organized weekly bridge games, which she often won, and enjoyed dinners down the street at El Fenix. Marguerite and Joe took their new life together to the fullest, including travels to the Panama Canal and New York City. Marguerite is survived by her devoted husband, Joe Kendall; children, Ed Hilscher, Jr., Barbara Hilscher Jackson and Janice Hilscher; her grandson, Ryan Edward Hilscher; and many nieces and nephews. Marguerite was preceded in death by one of her best friends, her sister Blanche Weete and her brother Claude Burba. During their nearly 15 years of marriage, Marguerite and Joe were a perfect example of the following: ‘We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can fly only by embracing each other.’ Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Friday, August 1, 2008 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held at 12:30pm, Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
