Beverly Jean Andes Baker's Obituary
Beverly was born to Harry Andes and Gwendoline Hedger Andes in Maroa, Illinois. She was the middle child of seven children and remained close to her five brothers and one sister throughout her life. She graduated from high school in Sibley, Illinois, and earned her Registefed Nurse (RN) degree from Mennonite Nursing School in Bloomington, Illinois. In 1951 she married her husband of 47 years, James (Jim) Baker of Pekin, Illinois. Jim earned his engineering degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, and worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric in Bloomington. Beverly continued nursing at Mennonite Hospital. They have two daughters, Cindy and Lisa.The family transferred to Dallas, Texas, where both Beverly and Jim were active in Eastern Star, members of Spring Valley United Methodist Church, and Spring Valley Country Club. They had many favorite club activities including golf, swimming, tennis, and bingo. An avid pilot, Jim flew Beverly and their girls to many destinations, departing from Addison Airport in north Dallas. They also took dance lessons at Fretz Park Recreation Center and enjoyed traveling the country and the world. Beverly continued working as an RN at Spring Valley Community Hospital, later known as Richardson General Hospital (now Methodist Richardson Medical Center) both located in Richardson, Texas. She worked in several departments (labor and delivery, psychiatric, recovery, and floor). She retired from nursing in 1989.Family and friends remember Beverly’s great sense of humor, her infectious laugh, and her giving heart. She always saw the best in people and had the ability to see the bright side of life.Beverly is preceded in death by her parents Harry Andes and Gwendoline Hedger Andes, her husband, James Eugene Baker, and their infant son, Douglas William Baker; her brothers Ed Andes of Oregon, Bill Andes of Indiana, Dick Andes of Illinois, Larry Andes of Illinois/Texas/Florida and her sister, Marjorie Andes Swartz of Indiana and Midland, Texas.The family will hold a celebration of Beverly’s life Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 1 PM – 3 PM at Restland Funeral Home.
