Beverly Page "Bevo" Burrage's Obituary
Beverly Page Burrage or Bevo, as he was known to family and friends, passed away June 18, 2015 surrounded by family at his daughter’s house in Plano, Texas. He was born May 5, 1916 in Florence, SC to William L. and Estelle Burrage. He was raised in Rocky Mount, NC where he developed a love of music and played saxophone and clarinet in many big bands in college and east coast beach resorts. Bevo graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1938 with a B.S. in Commerce and later earned an MBA from SMU. He served four years in WWII in the Army Air Corps. He flew 65 combat missions in the Martin B-26 Marauder out of England, including participating in D Day. Bevo was then stationed in Texas to train cadets in B-25s, fell in love with and married Betty Lockwood and began a 35 year career with Continental EMSCO working primarily in personnel management. He was a loyal member of Spring Valley United Methodist Church; following retirement, was a golf and tennis enthusiast; participated 8 years in Neighborhood Crime Patrol; and performed volunteer work, reading with elementary school children. Bevo had an inquiring mind throughout his life, and even at the very end was reading extensively and discussing philosophical ideas. Bevo found joy in traveling with Betty and in spending time with friends and family. Bevo was admired and loved by many people, including his wife, Betty, of 69 years. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Hogshire, his two cherished daughters and sons in law, Rebecca Burrage (Keith Guernsey) Rosemary Himes (James Himes); grandchildren (who knew him as “Papa”): Jennifer Himes Simonich and Scott L. Himes (Jessica Himes); and six wonderful great-grandchildren: Madison, Nathan, and Sara Simonich and Blakely, Harper, and Hudson Himes. Bevo was a positive model, and instilled the importance and love of family in us all. Throughout his life he felt a strong sense of responsibility for family, which was a driving force in all of his actions. He will truly be missed! Memorial Services will take place at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Spring Valley United Methodist Church, 7700 Spring Valley Rd., Dallas, TX 75254. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
