Billie Jean Cox's Obituary
Billie Jean Beichner Cox died on March 25th 2025 just days shy of her 94th birthday. Billie was born in Oklahoma City on March 31, 1931 to William Fredrick Beichner and Edith Blanch Miller Beichner. She graduated from Seminole High School and then Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater with a degree in Home Economics. She was a service director for Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company when she married Dale Cox in 1955. They relocated to Garland, TX and purchased Melrose Pharmacy on Oak Lawn Ave in Dallas and operated the drug store together for 34 years. Billie was an outstanding cook, and her family delighted in her nightly meals including favorites fried chicken, beef stroganoff and Italian spaghetti. She was a member of Axe Memorial Methodist Church in Garland. In retirement Billie was a voracious reader often staying up most of the night enjoying a good book. Although she was a woman of few words, her quick wit and pointed, often satirical comments always made us laugh. She was indeed the best mom.
Billie is survived by her children Gary Cox and his partner Lori Braunstein of Garland, Michael Cox and his wife Galynn of Murphy and Susan McAleb and her husband Gordon of Allen; Grandchildren Jennifer Woods, Andrew Robertson, Paige Ramos, Beja Foster, Les Heifner, Sydney McAleb & Morgan McAleb; Great Grandchildren Peyton Foster, Carter Foster, Maxwell Woods, and Ella Rose Ramos.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband Dale in 1997 and her siblings Clifford Beichner of Seminole, OK, Helen Talley of Mustang, OK, Mary Margaret Stevens Cobb of Shawnee, OK and Dorothy Ann Pritchett of Prague, OK.
Funeral services will be held at Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, TX in the Wildwood Chapel on Monday, April 7th at 10:30 am. Visitation will be that morning at the Chapel beginning at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donating to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
