Billie Faye Deavers Melaun's Obituary
MELAUN, BILLIE FAYE DEAVER age 87, was born on January 28, 1925 in Emhouse, Texas. She died peacefully on October 27, 2012 in Houston, Texas, knowing that she was loved by family and friends. The daughter of Mary and Willis Deavers, Billie was a native Dallasite. She grew up in Oak Cliff and lived there until 1967 when she moved to Richardson. In 2006, she and her husband moved to Houston. Billie graduated from Dallas Crozier Technical High School where she was an outstanding student and where she met her husband, Bill, in commercial art classes. She worked for the U.S. Bureau of the Census from 1978 to 1988 but for most of her married life, she was a homemaker. She was a lifelong Methodist with memberships at Wesley Methodist Church in Oak Cliff and First United Methodist Church of Richardson. Most important in Billie’s life was her family. She was a loving, devoted, and supportive daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. In her later years, Billie maintained a cheerful and positive outlook on life despite a myriad of health problems and the loss of beloved family members. She was outgoing, creative and loved by all who knew her. She made friends wherever she lived, especially at Grace Care Center of Cypress (Houston), her home for the last two and one half years of her life. Billie is preceded in death by her adoring husband, Bill; her two sons, Fred and Greg; and by her sister, Gwen Blair. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Scarcella and husband, John; daughter-in-law, Karen Melaun; grandchildren, Jason Scarcella and wife, Shannon; Jennifer Pavlovich and husband, Tim; Taylor Melaun; and Jessica Bartlett and husband, Ben. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; Ethan, Grace, Evan, Aubrey, Grayson, Brooklyn and Will; nieces and nephews; cousins; and a host of friends. The family is grateful to Drs. Sameh Aziz and Gary Irwin, and the nurses, CNAs, staff and volunteers at Grace Care Center of Cypress and Houston Hospice for their compassionate care. Friends and family are invited to the Visitation on Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home and to the Graveside Service on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 11:45 AM at Restland Memorial Park. The burial will be followed by a 12:30 PM memorial service at Restland’s Wildwood Chapel celebrating Billie’s life. Memorials in Billie Melaun’s name may be made to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030. www.houstonhospice.org.
