Billy G. (Bill) Starnes' Obituary
Starnes,Billy G. (Bill) born in Hornsby, TN on June 14, 1930, passed away August 6, 2013. The oldest of four brothers and one sister, Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Martha; daughter, Deborah and husband, John Entzminger; son, David and wife Sheri; grandchildren, Sheryl Corley and husband, Sean; Kyle Starnes, and Jacob Starnes and wife, Megan. Bill grew up in Memphis, TN and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953. He served his country for five years. He graduated from Southern Law School and began his career with DuPont. In 1964, Bill moved his family to Richardson at the request of Naval Academy classmate H. Ross Perot. He joined Electronic Data Systems and was part of the management team when he retired 27 years later. Also in 1964, Bill and his family joined First Baptist Church of Richardson, where he served in many leadership roles for the next 49 years. He lettered in football and baseball at the Naval Academy and enjoyed playing golf with his closest friends every Saturday morning. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bill served his Lord and Savior faithfully every day. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 9, from 6 to 8 PM at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held Sunday, August 11, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Richardson, 1001 N. Central Expressway. In lieu of flowers the family requests a gift in his memory to First Baptist Church Trust or any Alzheimer’s organization. The family would like to thank the staff of Presbyterian Village North, The Friends Place of Richardson and Emeritus at Stonebridge for their loving care of Bill during the past few years.
