Billy Don Bragg's Obituary
Billy Don Bragg, 93, of Mesquite, Texas passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Don was born on February 9, 1930 in the Spring Creek community on the family farm to Amos and Mae Browning Bragg. Don joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Era High School at age 17 in 1947. He was stationed in Japan and Guam during his years in service. After returning from military service, Don was employed by Western Union. He served in differing roles in the 40 plus years that he worked for Western Union. Don married Helen Butler on September 3, 1955. They had one son, Steven Bragg, born in 1960 Helen passed away in 2002 after 46 years of marriage. Don enjoyed working in the yard and supporting his son during his high school coaching career. Don will be remembered by all for his caring and selfless nature. He did whatever he could to provide education and opportunity for his son and grandchildren. Don loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frances Bragg, daughter in law Angie Morgan Bragg , and wife Helen Bragg. Don is survived by his son Steve Bragg and his wife Phyllis, grandchildren Cameron Bragg and Allison Drake , sisters June Dennis, Jane Barrett, Linda Nolan, Sister in Law Edna Neal and by numerous nieces , nephews, and in laws. A special thank you for his healthcare team at Cambridge Court in Mesquite and to Holding Hands Hospice who daily treated my father and our family with love, compassion, and much skill. A funeral service celebrating and honoring his life will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 10:00 AM at Restland Funeral Home in the Memorial Chapel. The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:00 AM preceding the service with the graveside service following. Pall bearers are Nathan Drake, Cameron Bragg, Danny Beal, Dayton Beal, Barry Bragg, and Jeff Neal.
