Billy Wayne Brown's Obituary
Billy Wayne Brown, 86, passed away on Aug 26th, 2011 in Dallas, TX. He was born on Feb 13, 1925 in Van Alystyne TX to Jiles Willis Brown and May Belle (Tudor) Brown. He grew up in Dallas, TX; served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, and was a survivor of the USS Bismarck Sea when it was sunk on Feb 21, 1945 near Iwo Jima and received two Captain’s commendations. He later served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War as a Fire Marshall in Santa Ana, CA. Billy retired from the Dallas Fire Department, as Battalion Chief, after 28 years of service. Shortly after retiring in 1975, he became Fire Chief at the National Aeronautical Space Administration (NASA) in Houston, TX serving in this capacity for 3 years. Upon returning to Dallas he became a Deputy with the Dallas Sheriff’s Department and served the citizens of Dallas County from 1977 to 1987. He was an active member of the Scottish Rite Shriners in Dallas and Masonic Lodge in Richardson. He loved to play golf with his sons and friends. Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Eileen Brown, his son Stephen Henry Brown, his brother Elvin Brown and his parents. Survived by his son, Phillip Wayne Brown and granddaughter Ashley Brown; daughter-in-law, Pat Brown and grandsons, Michael Brown, Keith Brown and Kirk Brown; sisters-in-law, Carol Benge, Vita Buchanan, and Joyce Barton; brothers-in-law, Kent Barton and Bruce Cepek, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 30th, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home – Dallas. Funeral services will be at Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, Texas on Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 at 10:00AM with Brother Jerry Perrill officiating. Private burial at DFW National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, and to also honor Billy’s wife Eileen, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
