Billy Wayne Green's Obituary
GREEN, BILLY WAYNE 77, loving father and devoted husband, died early Thursday morning, Oct. 25, 2012, at the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs, Texas, following an extended illness. Billy was born April 25, 1935, at Buffalo, Texas, the son of Claude and Iva Green. He received most of his undergraduate schooling at Buffalo, being double-promoted twice and graduating as salutatorian of the 1951 BHS senior class just a month after his 16th birthday. Besides academics, he excelled in livestock and agriculture, winning a Guernsey calf in a milking contest at the Houston Fat Stock Show. Although one of the smallest students in the high school, he also played on the BHS football team. Following graduation, Billy attended North Texas State University. Unable to complete his degree initially because of family duties, he returned to NTSU years later and in 1975 earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing while working fulltime to support his wife and three daughters and commuting from Dallas to Denton. After graduation, he opened his own business, P&G Plumbing Supply, which he owned and operated for 23 years. Before that, he had worked with his father in the Green Floor Company and sold plumbing products for Universal Supply Company. On June 12, 1959, he and Beverly Trimble were married in his parents’ Dallas home. She was his faithful companion the rest of his life, nursing him through periods of declining health over the past dozen years, and was at his bedside when he died. They enjoyed traveling and saw much of the world together. He took pleasure in skiing, fishing and spending time at his deer lease near Strawn with his sons-in-law and grandchildren. He also enjoyed his pets, especially the last one – a black Labrador named Bow – who seemed to sense what had happened as he laid his head on Billy’s clothes when Bev brought them home following his death. A patriot, Billy served several years in the U.S. Army and Texas National Guard, including active duty time during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His duty stations included Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. Billy and Bev lived in Dallas, Garland and near Yantis on the shores of Lake Fork where they built their retirement home. He was very generous with both his time and money, looking after his parents and checking on them regularly as they grew older. Bev, his constant companion in these endeavors, survives along with three daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Richard Monroe of Forney, Debbie and Ron Shafer of Cleburne, and Kim and Carl Grissom of Garland. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Chris Deen, Candice Rose, Brandon Deen, Tyler Monroe, and Bryan and Kyle Grissom, as well as eight great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Billy was preceded in death by one great-grandson. His family wishes to thank Dr. J. Steven Burdick for his thoughtful care the last few years of Billy’s life. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, October 29th at Restland Wildwood Chapel with George Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Restland Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Restland Funeral Home.
