Billy Joe Grubbs' Obituary
Billy Joe Grubbs, a loving and faithful husband, father, Pop, brother and friend peacefully went to be with the Lord on June 2, 2015 in Waco, Texas at the age of 86 years. Bill was born on November 17, 1928 in Dallas, Texas to R. N. and Cordie Grubbs. He was the youngest of 9 children with 5 brothers (Clyde, Claude, Graham, Paul & Richard) and 3 sisters (Frances, Winnie & Juanita) who lovingly referred to him as their “Baby Brother”. After graduating from Crozier Tech, Bill served from 1946 through 1949 in the U. S. Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician. Upon his Honorable Discharge, Bill soon met the love of his life, Ruby Turner, whom he married on June 16, 1951 and was blessed with four children: Penny, Paul, Mike & Amy. While raising his family in Dallas, Bill also commuted for a number of years to East Texas State University to continue his education in Electrical Engineering. His career in electronics included developing programs to track the recovery of Apollo Space Mission vessels and as an international instructor for maintenance of flight simulators. •Bill was a Master Mason and Member of the Trinity Valley Lodge (Dallas), Springfield Lodge (Mexia) and an Endowed Member in the Groesbeck Lodge. A few of his accomplishments included Past Master (1983), the Golden Trowel Award (2000), and appointment as District Instructor – Dist. 22 (2015). Bill was predeceased by his daughter, Penny Ann Grubbs Hudson, and grandchildren, Lezlee Ann Wells and Joseph Malcolm Grubbs. Survivors include his devoted wife of 63 years, Ruby; son, Paul A. Grubbs and wife, Shannon of Stephenville; son, Michael D. Grubbs and wife, Coleta of Wichita Falls; daughter, Amy Ward and husband, John of Mexia, and Son-in-Law, James “Hut” Hudson of Cedar Hill. He is survived by one brother, Paul Franklin Grubbs as well as grandchildren: Michael D. Grubbs, II; Alyssa Clark-Hudson (Ryan); Todd Grubbs (Mary), Ian Grubbs, Spencer E. Thomas, and Trey Milner (Cassie) and numerous nephews and nieces. Bill’s family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home with services to take place at 12:30 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Serving as Pallbearers will be his Brothers from the Masonic Lodge. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Valley Lodge #1048, Groesbeck Lodge #354, or Springfield Lodge #74.
