Billy Ransom's Obituary
Billy Ransom, 93, born October 15, 1923 in Dripping Spring, Arkansas to Jacob Henry Ransom and Nora Lovett Ransom. He passed away at a Dallas Hospital with family by his side after a brief illness on April 20, 2017. As a young man he drove a truck for RMB Produce. In 1943 he joined the Navy. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1943-1945. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor and Okinawa. During that time he met his future wife, Virginia Barlow; who was stationed in Hawaii at the time. In May of 1945 he was shipped out for the invasion of Okinawa. Virginia stayed behind in Honolulu worrying about him. He was discharged in December 1945. He kept writing to her but the letters were returned to him unopened, she had been discharged from the Women’s Army Corps. He went to Maine to reunite with her. They both went to Arkansas where they married April 1, 1946. He has been very active with volunteering at Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Dallas, Hella Temple, and various military programs and projects. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters: Ed Ransom, Lee Ransom, Ruby Ransom Tessie Ransom, Clyde Ransom, Clara Ransom, and Roger Ransom. Survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Virginia Barlow Ransom; nephew, Ronnie Gene Ransom; niece, Dianne Postupack; niece Barbara Ballard; several other nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on April 26, 2017 from 5-8 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held on April 27, 2017 at 1:15 PM at the DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dallas Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
