Billy George Seale's Obituary
BILLY GEORGE SEALE, LT COL UNITED STATES ARMY Born on May 16, 1928, in Tarrant, Alabama; died on April 17, 2013. Billy was the child of Mary Annie Stewart and Brooks Cauley Seale. He was the youngest of three boys. His father died when he was four years old. Billy graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham, AL. He continued his education at Auburn University where he graduated number one in his Electrical Engineering Class. After a brief stint as a Maintenance Engineer with E.I. Dupont, Billy was drafted into the US Army from 1951 to 1953. He returned to his engineering job with Dupont for another year-and-a-half. However, Billy realized his heart was in service to his country, so in 1955 he re-joined the US Army where he served for more than 23 years including a year in Vietnam. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Subsequently, he started a new career in the home-building and land development business in El Paso, Texas, before retiring in 1995. Billy is survived by the love of his life, the former Athena Margellos whom he met when he was serving in Germany and she was teaching school there. They married on January 12, 1963, and were blessed to be able to celebrate their 50th anniversary just a few months before he died. In addition to being survived by his wife “Teena,” Billy is survived by three daughters, Annie Harris, Jennifer Seale and Amy Kirchen, all of whom live in Dallas, as well as two sons-in-law and five grandchildren. Also, he is survived by his older brother, Rex Seale of Birmingham, AL. Billy was a man of unquestionable integrity and, although oftentimes fairly stoic, had a tremendous sense of humor and was the creator of nicknames for many of his Army buddies as well as his children, nicknames that have stuck for many, many years. Throughout the years, Billy and Teena loved to travel and traveled the world, even climbing Machu Picchu in relatively recent years. Just five weeks before he died, Billy was diagnosed with lung cancer. Almost immediately, he and Teena came to Dallas from Tucson (where they had been living for the last 14 years) to be close to family-his decline in health was remarkably rapid, but he never uttered a word of complaint and accepted this fate with remarkable grace, finding comfort that he was secure in his Christian faith and that eternal salvation awaited him upon his departure from this world. Billy is, and will be, sorely missed by all his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 25, 2013 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas, TX. Interment at 2:30 PM at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made “In Memory of Billy George Seale” to the American Cancer society, 8900 John W. Carpenter Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75247 or donate at www.cancer.org or call 1-800-227-2345.
