Curry, Birdie Bernice's Obituary
Birdie Bernice Jones Curry, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2025. Born on October 10, 1939, in Bardwell, Texas to Emmett Eugene and Willie Mae (Hooks) Jones, Birdie was the eldest of eight children. She moved to Dallas, Texas, as a small child, where she was raised in the Baptist faith and later became a faithful member of Porter Temple C.M.E. Methodist Church for over 60 years, dedicating herself to the church’s Missionary Society.
Birdie attended N.W. Harlee and Charles Rice Elementary Schools, Lincoln High School, and Wylie Business College. During her school years, she was an active participant in the Harry T. Burlee choir, Student Council, Hall Monitor Division, and the Student Modeling Club.
She was united in matrimony in 1959 to Freeman Curry who proceeded her in death on July 30th, 2017, with whom she shared a 58-year loving partnership. Birdie was a devoted mother to two sons, Roderick Curry of Dallas, Texas, and Andre Pierre Curry of Frisco, Texas.
Birdie dedicated over 33 years of service to Baylor Hospital, where she was recognized with pins every five years of employment and honored with a diamond-clustered pin for her 30 years of dedicated service.
She is survived by two sons, Roderick (Sharon) and Andre Pierre (Ginger); granddaughters, Annie Grayce Curry, Christina (Marcus)Logan Rowe; and grandsons, Eli Jackson Curry, Tim Logan and Tyrone(Lauren)Logan; her sisters Myrtle J. Jones of Denver, Colorado; Clydia R. Jones and Vera Jones of Dallas, Texas; and Joyce Jones of Phoenix, Arizona; as well as brothers David Jones of Revere, Nebraska, and Ray Jones of Roy City, Texas. Birdie also leaves behind her beloved goddaughter, Shatorya Modkins Wallace of Aubrey, Texas, along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
Birdie is also survived by one of her best friends Betty Jones, other cherished friends that proceeded her in death were Barbara Edwards, Lillie Edwards, and Carol Bynum.
