Blake Bartow Witcher's Obituary
Blake Bartow Witcher passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the age of 55. He is survived by his loving family which includes his daughters, Elise and Meredith Witcher of Dallas, Texas; his parents, Dr. Donald and Alice Witcher; his sister and brother-in-law, Marla and Tom Velarde; his brother, Chad Witcher; his nieces, Tracy (Brent) Chiado, Kasha (Zach) Wilson, and Kelly (Henry) Stetina, all from New Mexico. Blake also has family in Kansas, including his aunts Anita Witcher and Barbara Pate, and his cousins, Grant and Eric (Renee) Witcher. Blake grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he played a variety of sports in high school. He was most passionate about football and later received a scholarship to play college football at New Mexico State University. There he received the award for defensive M.V.P. from 1980-1982. He received both his B.A. in Accounting and his B.A. in Finance from New Mexico State University. He received his Accounting degree while also attending law school at Oklahoma City University. Blake received his J. D. in 1986, graduating in the top quarter of his class. He was a member of the international legal fraternity, Phi Delta Phi, and a member of The Oklahoma City University Law Review. After graduating, Blake received his license to practice law in both Oklahoma and Texas. Blake moved to Dallas in 1986 to practice law, working initially for Earl Luna, Chantilis and Brousseau, Charlie Bradshaw. In 1992, he started his own law firm, Witcher & Laurin, P.C. Blake will best be remembered as an intelligent, funny, and giving man who loved his daughters and his friends dearly. His philanthropy, though not an established organization, functioned one on one for those he encountered through his law practice and personal life. Blake was a modest and humble man that fought strongly for those who could not fight for themselves, while never expecting anything in return. A memorial is planned for Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11 am at the Restland Memorial Chapel located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation in Blake’s name to the Easter Seals El Mirador, which can be mailed to 10 A-Van-Nu-Po, Santa Fe, NM 87508-1461. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
