Blanche Ann McClain's Obituary
Blanche Ann McClain went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with her family at her side on February 23, 2017. Blanche was born in Georgetown, Texas on May 6, 1933. She is preceded in death by her father, Carl Edgar Carlson and mother, Mabel Rosalie Brady. Blanche is survived by her life’s love and husband of 53 years, George Tomey McClain, her children Colby Cave, daughter Tamara Peak and husband Samuel H (Bodie) Peak III, her grandchildren Carlin and Blake Peak, and great-grandson Kameron Peak. Blanche grew up on a farm in the then agricultural town of Georgetown. She attended Georgetown High School in a class of less than 30. Blanche recalled the “wild ride through San Gabriel Park and was amazed that “we weren’t all killed.” She remembered summer days swimming in the San Gabriel River and many fun times on the high school debate team. After graduation, she attended North Texas State College (now University of North Texas) where she majored in speech and education. At some point, Blanche reminisced with her daughter that when she went to North Texas she had a dream of perhaps becoming an actress—she chose education instead. She later received a Master’s degree in school administration. Blanche worked for Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD for 33 years first as a speech therapist and later as the Coordinator of Special Education until she retired in 1997. Organization was Blanche’s middle name and she had a reputation as a consummate professional—she knew her “stuff.” Blanche had many loves. First and foremost, she had a deep faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and attended Grace Bible Church and Don King’s bible study class for more than 20+ years. She also was a member of the Thursday women’s bible study class. She manned the phones every Monday for Need Him for many, many years and was a witness and counsel for those who needed to hear about God’s grace. Until a few years ago she was an active volunteer at the seminary pantry here in Dallas. Blanche’s family was everything to her. She was a strong, supportive, loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. After her son’s injury 26 years ago, she faithfully attended to his needs often when it wasn’t needed. That was Blanche. She was a widow for several years before she married Tomey, the love of her life. With his help, she raised her children to understand the love of God and the importance of education. To say that Blanche would have given her right arm for her husband, children or grandchildren is not an understatement. Her life is a testament to love and sacrifice and a giving heart. Blanche enjoyed her retirement. She loved to travel and took many domestic and international cruises with Tomey and went to Ruidoso each July to beat the Dallas heat. She played bridge multiple times a week, was a member and past officer of the Farmers Branch Women’s Club, Retired Teachers Association, Rhea Crane Reading Club, Gourmet Club among others. She was active in all of these prior to the accident which took her life. Friends are encouraged to visit restlandfuneralhome.com for more information on Blanche’s life and loves. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Monday, February 27, 2016 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Restland Memorial Chapel.
